The January episode of “Art Matters at UAB” begins with UAB Visual Arts Gallery director Brett Levine, who details the career of Alabama artist Pinky Bass and her retrospective show at the gallery Jan. 8-Feb. 6.
The second segment features Julie Wall of the UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center and the center’s upcoming “ArtBLINK” gala. “ArtBLINK” is an elegant evening of cocktails, dinner and live music. The highlight of the event happens when Alabama’s top artists each create masterpieces in just 90 minutes to be auctioned off that night at the event. The black-tie gala fundraiser marks the culmination of the center’s annual fundraising campaign, which kicked off in November 2009. “ArtBLINK” will take place Feb. 27 at The Kirklin Clinic.
Jessica Simpson from UAB’s Alys Robinson Stephens Performing Arts Center details upcoming events in the final segment. Upcoming performers to be presented by the Alys Stephens Center include Los Lobos acoustic, McCoy Tyner Trio with special guest Savion Glover, Three Dog Night, the ASC Kids’ Club with a show celebrating Black History Month, Soweto Gospel Choir and Monterey Jazz Festival.
The show is scheduled to air several times each week in January on Bright House Channel 4, including at 9 p.m. Monday, 6 p.m. Tuesday, 10 p.m. Wednesday and 5 p.m. Thursday. It can be viewed by more than 56,000 customers throughout Jefferson County. The program also is available on Bright House’s Birmingham On Demand, which can be viewed by more than 36,000 people.
New segments featuring the arts at UAB will air on Birmingham On Demand beginning in February.
