BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - High school music students and K-12 music teachers are invited to a free, one-day UAB Music Technology Academy, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 8, presented by the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Department of Music.

The UAB Music Technology Academy is an intensive, full-day workshop, featuring hands-on instructional sessions on topics, including production, engineering and recording, informational workshops, such as how to work with computer assisted instructional tools, and computer music performances. Students and teachers will gain useful knowledge and valuable skills for employing music technology in the classroom. Students also can gain awareness of college and career opportunities in the field of music technology.

The academy will be held in the UAB Department of Music's music technology lab and recording studio, 950 13th St. S. Birmingham. Participants will receive a box lunch, T-shirt and certificate of completion. Participants also will attend the UAB Computer Music Ensemble concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 7, in the UAB Mary Culp Hulsey Recital Hall, 950 13th St. S.

Teachers can earn up to six hours of professional development credit for participating. Teachers will be accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis. Students who wish to participate must be nominated for consideration by a teacher, music supervisor or principal. Students must submit their online application by Oct. 20.
