BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB School of Business hosts its ninth annual Scholarship Luncheon 11:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 3, inside Birmingham's The Club at 1 Robert S. Smith Drive.  The luncheon offers the school's 2008 scholarship students a chance to meet their sponsoring donors in person.

More than 125 students will be recognized at the event as scholarship recipients for the 2008 fall and spring semesters.  Representatives from Birmingham area businesses Regions Bank and O'Neal Steel and dozens of other local scholarship-funding firms will attend to congratulate their benefactors.

The luncheon is a first step for many students as they look to network and secure future business careers.  The connections made at Friday's event make for a smoother transition into professional business for both students and their sponsoring companies with students more assured of a post-UAB job and companies less strained to find qualified job applicants.

The relationship built between scholarship recipients and their donors at this year's luncheon will prove evermore valuable as students look to overcome current economic conditions, including the stagnant job market, and earn a business position upon graduation.

"Many of the students honored at the Scholarship Luncheon each year go on to work for the company that sponsored their scholarship or with another of the companies represented at the event," said Camille Amos, development director for the UAB School of Business.
