BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB African American Studies Program will host an open house event, "Talking Books," 12:30 - 2:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 5, on the terrace of Heritage Hall, 1401 University Blvd.
"Talking Books" is an opportunity for students and the community to learn more about the UAB African-American Studies program and to meet the program's faculty and staff. "Talking Books," is a metaphor for the blending of African American oral tradition with the Euro-American written tradition and comes from the autobiography of Olaudah Equiano, who published his life story, "The Interesting Narrative of the Life of Olaudah Equiano, or Gustavus Vassa, the African."
