UAB medical students will conduct a march through UAB as part of activities marking Cover the Uninsured Week. The march hopes to draw attention to those without health insurance in Alabama. More than 47 million Americans are uninsured; 80 percent come from working families and 20 percent are children.

The march will depart from Cooper Green Mercy Hospital at 5 p.m., on Monday, April 28. Marchers should meet at the 6th Ave. entrance to Cooper Green. The march will proceed to the Double Tree Hotel on 20th St., where local leaders will speak on health care coverage in America.

Cover the Uninsured Week, now in its sixth year, is a project of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. It is a national effort to draw attention to the many Americans living without health insurance and the economic and health issues that result. The march in Birmingham is also supported by the American Medical Association, the American Medical Student Association and the Equal Access Free Clinic.
