BIRMINGHAM, AL — Paul Clay Rowell, Birmingham, is the recipient of a National Academic Advising Association (NACADA) 2001 Scholarship.

Rowell received a bachelor’s degree from Birmingham Southern College in 1992 and a master’s degree in counseling from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) in 1998. He is currently a student counselor with the school’s General Studies program and is working towards an education specialist degree in community counseling at UAB. He is expected to graduate in the summer of 2002.

Rowell will be honored and presented with this scholarship award in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada during the annual NACADA Conference in October. Rowell is the son of Dr. and Mrs. Andy H. Rowell, Jr. of Birmingham, Alabama.

The scholarship is presented to selected members of the NACADA who are pursuing graduate education at either the Masters or Ph.D. level. The program supports a primary of the organization, which is to promote professional training of advisors. Rowell is one of five individuals awarded scholarships this year by the NACADA in a nation-wide competition.

Each year, since 1983, the NACADA has honored individuals and institutions making significant contributions to the improvement of academic advising. The goal of the NACADA is to promote quality academic advising and professional development of its membership to enhance the educational development of students.
