BIRMINGHAM, AL — Caron Thornton, executive director of the Alys Stephens Center, announced Wednesday that Alan Martin, executive vice president of Alabama Power, has been named president of the Alys Stephens Center’s Advisory Board. Martin replaces former president Mark Mayfield of Southern Progress Corp.
Thornton said securing Martin as the board leader was a coup for the Center.
“Alan joined the board only a year ago and quickly impressed us all with his enthusiasm and support for the Alys Stephens Center’s activities. He is charming and knowledgeable about Birmingham, and brings the support of Alabama Power as its executive vice president,” Thornton said. “We could not be more delighted.”
Martin, a native of Birmingham, said he is interested in things that are good for the community, including the Alys Stephens Center. As president, Martin said he hopes to elevate community awareness of the Alys Stephens Center and ensure corporate support.
“The Alys Stephens Center adds to the quality and options of entertainment in Birmingham, which broadens our community and makes it a more inviting place. The center offers a quality of entertainment and theatre production we didn’t have anywhere else,” Martin said.
The Alys Stephens Center’s 2001-2002 season begins October 5. Tickets are on sale now. For information or to order tickets, call (205 975-2787 or log on to www.alysstephens.org.
