BIRMINGHAM, AL — Bert Brouwer, M.F.A., dean of the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) School of Arts and Humanities, announced Monday that Jeff Reynolds, D.M.A., has been named chairman of the UAB Department of Music. Reynolds has served as interim chairman for the past year and in that time has exhibited excellent leadership, Brouwer said.
“Based on his performance the faculty of the department voted unanimously to appoint him as their chair,” Brouwer said.
Reynolds has accumulated an impressive record in managing music programs, and he has the requisite experience for leading a dynamic, growing music program at UAB, Brouwer said.
“Jeff has a global view of the music discipline and, while his training is in choral music, he is interested in developing a comprehensive music program that endeavors to provide training in classical music as well as music utilizing the most contemporary electronic technology,” Brouwer said.
Reynolds is a highly acclaimed conductor, clinician, adjudicator, speaker and teacher. Reynolds came to UAB from the University of Arkansas in 1998. He holds a Bachelor of Music degree in voice and church music from Samford University, a Master of Music in conducting from Southwestern Theological Seminary and Doctor of Musical Arts in conducting from the University of Illinois. Reynolds also is music director of the International Cathedral Music Festival and conducts singers and instrumentalists from all over the world in venues such as Salisbury Cathedral, Christ Church in Oxford, St. Stephens Cathedral in Vienna and St. Etienne-du-Mont in Paris.
