BIRMINGHAM, AL — The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) School of Business honored 12 outstanding alumni at its Winter Luncheon on Thursday, January 25, at The Club in Birmingham.
The 12 alumni, each accomplished in their respective fields, received the Outstanding Alumni Award presented by Robert Holmes, Ph.D., dean of the school of business.
The alumni are:
- John Bakane, CEO of Cone Mills Corp. in Greensboro, N.C.
- Uday R. Bhate CEO of Bhate Engineering Corp. in Birmingham
- Phyllis F. Hoffman, owner of Primedia Special Interest Publications and Hoffman Media in Birmingham
- Doug Smith, Ph.D., co-founder and principal in Evergreen Investments and Management, an early-stage venture capital firm based in Brentwood, Tenn.
- Tommie G. Cummings, partner in the accounting firm Hardman, Guess, Frost & Cummings PC, in Birmingham
- Gregory L. (Greg) Lee, CEO of Nexity Financial Corp., a Birmingham-based financial services company
- Michael D. Martin, managing partner of CannonGate Partners
- Susan Story, executive vice president, engineering and generation services at Southern Company in Birmingham
- Ken Jackson, president of Dudley C. Jackson Inc. in Pelham
- Walter Howlett, chairman and CEO of Booker T. Washington Insurance Company
- Birmingham resident James G. (Jim) Nelson, retired president of Time Life Books Inc.
- Grady Burrow, CEO of Main Street Checks in Birmingham
