BIRMINGHAM, AL — The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) has named the upper-level foyer of the Alys Robinson Stephens Performing Arts Center in honor of Marie S. Ingalls of Birmingham. A plaque designating the area as the Ingalls Grand Foyer recognizes Mrs. Ingalls’ generous contribution to the center.

Mrs. Ingalls has made many significant contributions to UAB’s endeavors, including substantial support for the Alys Stephens Center and the JASON project in the School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics. In addition to those contributions, Mrs. Ingalls has provided support for the UAB School of Nursing and the UAB Fund for Excellence.

Mrs. Ingalls is the widow of the late Robert I. Ingalls. She is a member of the UAB School of Nursing’s Advisory Board, the Alys Stephens Center Advisory Board and an honorary member of the President’s Council.

Mrs. Ingalls has a long and distinguished history of community involvement. She is a member and past president of the Alabama Kidney Foundation, the Baptist Medical Centers Foundation and the Women’s Committee of 100. In 1984, Mrs. Ingalls was named Birmingham’s Woman of the Year, and in 1991 was named Outstanding Philanthropist by the National Society of Fundraising Executives.

Mrs. Ingalls’ involvement and support of the Alabama Symphony Association, the Circle Club of the Alys Stephens Center and UAB’s Town and Gown Theatre has demonstrated her support of the arts. Mrs. Ingalls also is a member of the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America, the American Liver Society, the Antiquarian Society, the Salvation Army, the Alabama Goodwill Industries and the Arlington Historic House and Gardens Advisory Committee.
