BIRMINGHAM, AL — UAB Hospital has been awarded the 2001 Award of Excellence in Continuous Productivity and Quality Improvement. The award was given by the Alabama Productivity Center (APC), the same group that also awards the Alabama Quality Award.
In notifying UAB of the award, the APC noted the hospital's "commitment to productivity and quality, which sets the tone for what can only be described as an organization committed to continuous improvement."
UAB Hospital won the Alabama Quality Award in 1999. An organization is only eligible to receive that award once every three years.
The 2001 Award of Excellence in Continuous Productivity and Quality Improvement recognizes continued commitment to improving quality. Health care organizations are judged on several criteria including leadership, strategic planning, patient satisfaction, and workforce satisfaction.
"We take particular pride in this award as it does reflect our organization's pursuit of continuous improvement and excellence," says Martin Nowak, executive director of UAB Hospital.
Nowak will receive the award on behalf of UAB Hospital during the Alabama Quality Award Conference and award ceremony, to be held November 28 at the Richard Scrushy Center in Birmingham.
