BIRMINGHAM, AL — Two members of the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) counseling education honor society, Chi Sigma Iota, ZETA chapter, were honored recently at the American Counseling Association (ACA) Annual Conference in New Orleans, March 22-26.

Chi Sigma Iota is the international honor society for counselors-in-training, counselor educators and professional counselors. Its mission is to promote scholarship, research, professionalism, leadership and excellence in counseling, and to recognize high attainment in the pursuit of academic and clinical excellence in the field of counseling.

Brian S. Rodgers, M.A., of Hoover, received the Chi Sigma Iota Outstanding Service to the Chapter Award. He was cited for developing a statewide network of the 10 Chi Sigma Iota chapters in Alabama to improve cooperation and collaboration between the chapters. He has been editor of the ZETA Quarterly newsletter and the chapter’s Webmaster. Rodgers will become president of the ZETA chapter at UAB, effective April 27. He earned his master’s degree in counseling from UAB in 2000 and plans to return to pursue an Ed.S., degree in counseling. He is a community education coordinator at The Amelia Center, a comprehensive, grief-counseling center for children.

Gary A. Williams, Ed.S., LPC, CRC, NCC, of Hoover, received the Chi Sigma Iota 2002 International Outstanding Counselor Practitioner Award for excellence in counseling. Williams operates a private counseling practice and is an evaluator/counselor at Workshops Inc., a non-profit rehabilitation service facility for people with physical and mental disabilities. He earned a master’s degree in counseling in 1997 and an Ed.S., degree in 2001, both from UAB. He is president of the Chi Sigma Iota, ZETA chapter.
