UAB Joins National Read-in

In celebration of Black History Month, the UAB African-American Studies Program will join the 15th national African-American Read-In Chain sponsored by the Black Caucus of the National Council of Teachers of English.

BIRMINGHAM, AL — In celebration of Black History Month, the UAB African-American Studies Program will join the 15th national African-American Read-In Chain sponsored by the Black Caucus of the National Council of Teachers of English.

Participants in the Read-In Chain will gather at community sites and schools around the nation to read books by African-American authors. A read-in will be held 4-6 p.m. Sunday, February 1, at the Malcolm X Center, 119 3rd Avenue West.

A second read-in will begin promptly at 4 p.m. Monday, February 2, in the UAB Mervyn H. Sterne Library, Henley Room, 917 13th Street South. Participants will read silently for 30 minutes.

Both events are open to the public. All ages are welcome. Participants may bring their own books or choose from a selection provided at the read-in events. Refreshments will be served.
