BIRMINGHAM, AL — Eric Hunter, Ph.D., director of the Center for AIDS Research at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), has been named editor-in chief of AIDS Research and Human Retroviruses. The peer-reviewed journal publishes studies related to retrovirus research, particularly HIV research, and covers the investigations of viruses related to cancer, degenerative diseases and the immune system in general. Hunter, a renowned AIDS researcher, joined the UAB faculty in 1976. He currently serves as a professor of microbiology and scientist with UAB's Comprehensive Cancer Center. He received his doctorate degree in tumor immunology from Brunel University of England in 1972. Hunter succeeds Dani Bolognesi, Ph.D., chief executive officer, chief scientific officer and director of Trimeris, a biopharmaceutical company.
