The students were challenged to construct lightweight devices that protected a raw egg dropped from the roof of the three-story School of Engineering. | | | | WHY: | | The event was part of UAB’s observance of National Engineers Week. | | | | TO WIN: | | First, the egg must survive the fall intact. Then contestants are judged on how close they come to hitting the bull’s eye below. In addition, contestants are judged on the weight of their device — the lighter, the better. Styrofoam pellets, bubble packing wrap, parachutes and balloons are not allowed. | | | | WINNERS: | | High School Division: - Johnathan Simms and Ray Dale — Shelby County Vocational
