UAB Seeks Nominations for Public Health Hero Award

The School of Public Health at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) is accepting nominations for the 2003 Alabama Public Health Hero Award, presented annually in recognition of an individual’s efforts to improve and protect the health of Alabamians. The award acknowledges efforts such as calling attention to public health issues or developing and implementing disease prevention and health promotion programs in Alabama communities.

BIRMINGHAM, AL — The School of Public Health at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) is accepting nominations for the 2003 Alabama Public Health Hero Award, presented annually in recognition of an individual’s efforts to improve and protect the health of Alabamians. The award acknowledges efforts such as calling attention to public health issues or developing and implementing disease prevention and health promotion programs in Alabama communities.

“Alabama’s public health heroes are people we all know,” said Dr. Max Michael, dean of the School of Public Health. “They work in our health departments; public and private clinics; city, county, and state governments; schools, businesses and industries. They ensure our water is drinkable, our air is clean, our roads are safe and our food is fresh. The award recognizes and honors one of these dedicated and often unsung heroes.”

The recipient will receive a plaque and $1,000. The award, funded by the Hill Crest Foundation, will be presented at the UAB School of Public Health annual honors convocation at the Birmingham Museum of Art on May 9, 2003.
