BIRMINGHAM, AL — University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) student Adam Pinson’s knowledge of trivia will be put to the test when he competes against 14 other participants in the 2005 “Jeopardy!” College Championship, which airs at 6:30 p.m., November 7-18 on WIAT-42.
Pinson, 21, of Pinson, Alabama, was selected from thousands of applicants to compete on the show. The history major is an avid fan of “Jeopardy!” and says he tried three times in three years to win a chance to audition for the show.
“I guess the third time was the charm,” Pinson said. “This has definitely been a once in a lifetime experience. I’m just lucky to have been able to do this.”
Pinson traveled to Memphis, where he took a 50-question, multi-category test, which is a prerequisite for advancing in the auditions. He later played a mock game and underwent a personal interview by the producers. The show was taped at North Carolina State University in early October.
Pinson plans to earn a doctorate in history and become a professor. He is a 2002 graduate of Pinson Valley High School. He is the son of Nancy and Robert Pinson.
This year’s College Champion is guaranteed a $100,000 cash prize and a trophy. The second place contestant is guaranteed a minimum of $50,000 and the third place contestant will receive a minimum of $25,000. In the first week, each player will appear in one of five episodes. The winners of each show, along with the next four highest money earners, will go on to the semi-finals. In the second week, the nine semi-finalists will compete in three episodes for a place in the two-game final match.
