eva lewis 2018 webEva W. Lewis, an expert in higher education and health care leadership, planning and management has been named vice provost for Institutional Effectiveness and Academic Planning following a national search. Lewis began work at UAB on Aug. 1.

Lewis is coming to UAB from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga where she was the assistant provost for Strategy and executive director for the Office of Planning, Evaluation and Institutional Research and the liaison for the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.

“It’s an honor to be named vice provost for Institutional Effectiveness and Academic Planning,” Lewis said. “With a long background working in academia and health care, I see nothing but promise in UAB’s dedication to pursuing its strategic plan. I look forward to serving the UAB campus and its faculty, staff and students as UAB embarks on its mission to forge the future of, not just the institution itself, but also the Birmingham community, the state of Alabama and the world.”

In her role, Lewis will provide the Institutional Effectiveness and Academic Planning team direction and context critical for developing the necessary support to implement UAB’s strategic plan, “Forging the Future.” The strategic plan’s success will rely heavily on measurements of productivity and efficiency, and institutional data and planning, data analyses and evaluation at the organizational and unit levels will be key.

“Eva is the absolute right person to help provide information needed to make strategic decisions,” said Pam Benoit, senior vice president for Academic Affairs and provost. “I’m confident her passion and skill set will keep us focused on making data-driven decisions while looking ahead to UAB’s future.”

Lewis earned her bachelor’s degree from Lipscomb University and her master’s in business administration from the Vanderbilt University Owen Graduate School of Management. She is enrolled in the learning and leadership doctorate program at UTC, where she is finishing her dissertation. She has served in many leadership roles, including the vice president of Institutional Effectiveness, Research and Planning at Chattanooga State Community College and in health care administration at Emory Healthcare in Atlanta.
