Courtney Bentley, Ed.D.Courtney Bentley, Ed.D., associate dean of the UAB School of Education, has been named president-elect of the Alabama Association of Colleges for Teacher Education.
Bentley was elected to the vacant position, along with other officers and members of the executive committee during the association’s fall meeting in October.
ALACTE provides leadership on issues related to professional education. Its primary focus is teacher education. The association promotes effective public policy regarding professional education and works to enhance and improve professional education programs at its member institutions and the professional effectiveness of its members.
ALACTE is an affiliate of the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education. The AACTE is a national alliance of education preparation programs dedicated to the highest-quality professional development of teachers and school leaders in order to enhance PK-12 student learning. With 800 member institutions, the AACTE includes public and private colleges and universities in every state, the District of Columbia, the Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico and Guam.
Bentley has taught in and worked with PK-12 schools, universities and other educational agencies to support the development, implementation and review of effective programs that support equitable opportunities to learn for children, youth and adult learners. She holds a secondary appointment as an associate professor in the Department of Human Studies.
Bentley’s term as president of the ALACTE will begin in summer 2018.
