Gary Peters 12Gary Peters, Ph.D., associate professor of education leadership in the UAB School of EducationGary Peters, Ph.D., has been awarded the 2017 McGraw-Hill Distinguished Scholars Award by the American Association of Behavioral and Social Sciences.

The AABSS is a juried, national conference where attendees present scholarship related to a variety of contexts, including theory, practice, empirical research and conceptual advancement.

The award recognizes longstanding conference participants who have evidenced able scholarship in research presentations and publications, and made scholarly contributions to their respective fields.

Peters is an associate professor of educational leadership in UAB School of Education Department of Human Studies. His research focuses on cultural factors underlying leadership processes; organizational behavior from the perspective of individuals, groups and the organization as a whole; and leadership in crisis situations. Peters was a resident of the Mississippi Gulf Coast during Hurricane Katrina. His experiences during this time allowed him to examine crisis leadership and its organizational function in post-disaster recovery efforts.
