Keith Gurley, Ed.D., assistant professor in the UAB School of Education Department of Human Studies, has been awarded the 2016 McGraw-Hill Distinguished Scholars Award by the American Association of Behavioral and Social Sciences.
The AABSS is a juried, national conference that presents scholarship related to a variety of contexts, including theory, practice, empirical research and conceptual advancement. The award recognizes longstanding conference participants who have evidenced able scholarship in research presentations and publications and made scholarly contributions to their respective fields.
“The committee recognized Dr. Gurley as an early-career, tenure-track faculty member with a quantity and quality record of scholarship that shows him on a strong future trajectory,” said Michael Firmin, Ph.D., AABSS conference director.
Gurley is a professor of educational leadership. His current research explores expanding the roles of assistant principals in schools from mostly managerial to instructional in order to increase their roles in improving teaching and student achievement.
Awardees will be recognized at the 19th annual American Association of Behavioral and Social Sciences Conference in February.
