The University of Alabama at Birmingham Division of Pulmonary, Allergy and Critical Care Medicine presents Pulmonary & Critical Care Update, 2015 on Friday and Saturday, April 10 and 11. The two-day event features a basic and translational research symposium and a professional update session.
James P. Kiley, Ph.D., director of the Division of Lung Diseases at the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute, will present the keynote address during the research symposium, which will run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 10.
George Washko, M.D., associate professor of medicine at the Harvard Medical School, will present the annual Branscomb-Briggs Lecture during the update, which will run from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 11. Both will be held at the DoubleTree Hotel in Birmingham.

Topics covered include risk factors, pathogenesis and management of COPD, asthma, ARDS and pulmonary hypertension. Additional presentations will address the molecular basis for targeted therapies for cystic fibrosis and non-small cell lung cancer and new diagnostic approaches and imaging for COPD. The update will also feature sessions on the use of transplant and ECMO for advanced lung diseases such as COPD and idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis.
