Catherine Danielou, Ph.D., associate dean of the University of Alabama at Birmingham College of Arts and Sciences and professor of French, has been awarded the prestigious Ordre des Palmes Académiques (Order of Academic Palms) from her native France.
Founded by Emperor Napoléon, this distinction is an Order of Chivalry for academics and cultural and educational figures recognizing those who are active players in promoting the French language and culture.
“I am deeply honored and happy,” said Danielou, who in 2010 was awarded the Frederick W. Conner Prize in the History of Ideas, “This is an exceptional recognition and a unique academic honor.”
Danielou was president of the Alabama chapter of the American Association of Teachers of French and is the Southeast regional representative and a council member. She also was a council member of the Alabama Association of Foreign Language Teachers.
