Meredith Kilgore, Ph.D., has been named the new chair of the Department of Health Care Organization and Policy in the UAB School of Public Health. Kilgore, who holds bachelor’s degrees in nursing and political science, a master of science in public health, and a Ph.D. in policy analysis, teaches clinical decision-making and cost-effective analysis and is also the co-director of the Pharmaco-Epidemiology and Economics Research (PEER) Group.
The previous chair of HCOP, Peter Ginter, M.B.A., Ph.D., stepped down from the position after 15 years, but remains on faculty. Max Michael, M.D., dean of the UAB SOPH, says the department’s faculty chose to do an internal search for the position, and selected Kilgore.
“Meredith brings to the department a very strong academic background with a history of being a clinician, and I think that is important for the balance between the academic world and the real world,” Michael says.
Kilgore officially began his new role as chair on Oct. 1, 2012.
