Author James McClintock, Ph.D., will sign copies of Lost Antarctica: Adventures in a Disappearing Land, beginning at 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 5, 2012, at Alabama Booksmith, 2626 19th Place South. Kirkus Reviews describes McClintock’s book as “a richly informative memoir from a veteran scientist who has devoted his career to Antarctica” and “entertaining natural history.” Lost Antarctica was released Sept. 18.
McClintock hopes his book will bring Antarctica to life for those who may never experience the beautiful, yet dangerous and environmentally fragile continent first-hand. Al Gore clearly feels that McClintock has succeeded. In a recent blog post, Gore said that the UAB researcher “eloquently transports the reader to the bottom of the world to witness the profound changes that are taking place.” The event is open to the public and copies of Lost Antarctica will be available for purchase.
