Thomas DiLorenzo, Ph.D., will transition from his post as dean of the UAB College of Arts and Sciences as soon as an interim dean can be named in order to take on a new role at UAB, said UAB Provost Linda Lucas, Ph.D. He will be serving as associate vice president for innovation, commercialization and entrepreneurship; in that role he will assist with facilitating the efficient transfer of innovations from UAB into commercial entities
“I want to thank Tom for his service as the founding dean of Arts and Sciences at UAB,” Lucas said. “He had the significant task of pulling together the faculty, staff and students of four schools and establishing the new college’s identity. We are very grateful to him.”
She credited his leadership of the college during its first years in significantly increasing support for faculty research, scholarship, and creative activity; developing an intensive New Faculty Orientation Program; and creating the Digital Media Commons and the Interdisciplinary Innovation Forum.
Lucas said an announcement will be forthcoming regarding an interim dean and a search for a permanent dean.
