Author James McClintock, Ph.D., UAB Endowed Professor of Polar and Marine Biology, will sign copies of Lost Antarctica: Adventures in a Disappearing Land, 4-6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2012, in the UAB Alumni House, 1001 13th Street South. The book, which Bill Gates called “a colorful narrative and a stark warning,” will be released Sept. 18.McClintock’s book is a work of nonfiction based on his adventures and discoveries during 20 trips made in his 30 years of researching the White Continent. McClintock — for whom a point is named on the Scott Coast of the Ross Sea — hopes his book will bring Antarctica to life for those who may never experience the beautiful, yet dangerous and environmentally fragile continent first-hand.
The event, presented by the UAB Department of Biology, Barnes and Noble/UAB Bookstore and All Seasons Travel, is open to the public. Copies of Lost Antarctica will be available for purchase.
