Dori Pekmezi, Ph.D., assistant professor in the UAB School of Public Health Department of Health Behavior, has been awarded a 2011 Charles Barkley Health Disparities Research Award in Outcomes/Comparative Effectiveness Research in the African American or the Hispanic/Latino Populations, through the UAB Minority Health and Health Disparities Research Center.
Pekmezi will be granted $30,000 to study the feasibility/acceptability of using interactive internet technology to promote physical activity in Latinas. Pekmezi’s proposal was selected because of its potential to produce results and be expanded through extramural funding.
The award will be formally presented on Oct. 6, 2011, at An Evening of Special Tribute, chaired by Charles Barkley and Ray Watts, M.D., dean of the UAB School of Medicine.
