American Cancer Society Board of Directors has named Gabrielle Rocque, M.D., assistant professor in the University of Alabama at Birmingham Marnix E. Heersink School of Medicine’s divisions of Hematology and Oncology and Gerontology, Geriatrics and Palliative Care, as 2021 Researcher of the Year, and the Alabama Comprehensive Cancer Control Coalition was named the 2021 Cancer Control Partner of the Year.
TheRocque’s award highlights the research she conducted to bring the patient voice to decision-making in metastatic breast cancer and her continued commitment to support patients receiving cancer care.
“Receiving this award from the American Cancer Society is a true honor,” Rocque said. “I am grateful for this support and will continue to build my research program and promote high-quality, patient-centered care.”
UAB School of Nursing Office of Research and Scholarship, received the award on the behalf of the ACCCC. Avery chairs the coalition and is proud of her team’s work in the community to promote cancer awareness and prevention strategies.
