Business people talking on seminar panel with microphoneUAB’s Institute for Human Rights will host a lecture to discuss the global impact of COVID-19 and the neglect of refugees. Join the University of Alabama at Birmingham’s Institute for Human Rights  at 4 p.m. Monday, Oct. 26, to hear from Polly Pallister-Wilkins, associate professor at the University of Amsterdam, on her latest research and how COVID-19 has impacted refugees and migrants in the Mediterranean.

Crises like diseases, war or natural disasters disproportionally affect the vulnerable and marginalized, and sadly, refugees are no exception. The situation in Lesvos was difficult before COVID-19 but is now even more pronounced: Refugees are particularly at risk considering the cramped situation in camps and the fact that they are often neglected by their hosts.

The virtual event is free and can be viewed live on the Institute for Human Rights Facebook page. For more information on how to register, visit uab.edu/cas/humanrights.
