Trey Gordon, MPATrey Gordon, MPA, a spring 2020 graduate from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, has won a Samuel B. Barker Award from the UAB Graduate School. The awards are given each spring to graduate students who represent the highest level of student achievement in a UAB program.
Gordon was named an Outstanding Student in the UAB College of Arts and Sciences’ Department of Political Science and Public Administration, was involved in an innovative simulation project as a graduate assistant during the 2019-2020 academic year, and launched a local nonprofit, Adjacent Space, that aims to improve accessibility for the deaf, hard-of-hearing and deafblind communities. He graduated with a Master of Public Administration degree with a certificate in Nonprofit Management from the College of Arts and Sciences.
“I have learned a great deal from the professors, peers and books; but one thing that really stood out to me in my UAB experience was empowerment,” Gordon said. “UAB inspired me to look at my own potential and how I can take the initiative to go and take action that will ultimately make a difference in our lives and society.”
