Schmidt, Tuma receive inaugural Outstanding SWE Member Undergraduate Scholarships

SWE2Mikalya Tuma and Emma Kay SchmidtTwo School of Engineering undergraduates are the first University of Alabama at Birmingham students to receive a new annual scholarship awarded by the Birmingham Society of Women Engineers.

The Birmingham SWE chapter announced last week that UAB students Mikayla Tuma, a civil engineering junior from Trussville, Alabama, and Emma Kay Schmidt, a biomedical engineering, Personalized Path Honors College junior from Temecula, California, have been selected to receive the Outstanding SWE Member Undergraduate Scholarships.

The scholarship was established in 2019 to support and recognize deserving undergraduate SWE members at any accredited engineering programs in the state of Alabama who have demonstrated academic excellence and committed involvement in SWE and their community.

The scholarships will be awarded annually.
