Mohamed Kazamel, M.D.Mohamed Kazamel, M.D., assistant professor in the Department of Neurology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Medicine, has been named the chair of the workshop committee of the American Association of Neuromuscular & Electrodiagnostic Medicine. As chair, Kazamel will plan and develop continuing education opportunities for the next four years for AANEM, the largest professional organization in this fields of neuromuscular medicine and clinical neurophysiology, at 5,000 members. The great majority of members are neurologists or physical medicine and rehabilitation specialists.
Kazamel and his committee are gearing up for the 2019 annual meeting of the organization in Austin, Texas, in October. More than 1,000 attendees are expected to be present. The committee will organize more than 45 workshops that offer hands-on learning for neuromuscular neurologists and physiatrists.
Workshops will offer medical professionals an opportunity to gain experience and knowledge in cutting-edge diagnostic testing that they will be able to take back to patients at their hospital or medical practice. Many of the workshops will detail best practices in the use of technologies such as electromyography, autonomic testing and neuromuscular ultrasound.
“It’s a great honor to be placed in charge of the workshop committee,” Kazamel said. “These important activities keep the field up-to-date on the newest technology and latest understanding of neuromuscular disease.”
Kazamel has been a member of AANEM since 2014; the association is focused on improving the lives of patients with neuromuscular diseases such as peripheral neuropathies, myopathies, myasthenia gravis and others.
