University of Alabama at Birmingham Collat School of Business has named Teresa L. Conover, Ph.D., as the chair of the Department of Accounting and Finance.
The“Dr. Conover is a seasoned accounting scholar and leader who brings a wealth of knowledge and experiences that will help us elevate our accounting and finance programs to new heights,” said Eric P. Jack, Ph.D., dean of the Collat School of Business. “We are also delighted that Dr. Conover has a long history leading international student organizations in accounting and finance, so she will be a champion for our students.”
Conover joins UAB from the University of South Florida St. Petersburg’s Kate Tiedemann College of Business, where she served as the director of the Program of Accountancy and a professor of accounting. She is a certified public accountant, certified internal auditor, chartered global management accountant and certified fraud examiner. Financial accounting, international accounting and internal auditing are among Conover’s research expertise.
“My goal is to educate successful accounting and finance professionals,” Conover said. “I found a career I love and want to share it with our students through educational and research opportunities.”
Conover earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of California at Davis in fermentation science in 1979. In 1983, she earned her Master of Business Administration degree from Oregon State University. She earned her Ph.D. in accounting from Texas A&M University. Prior to her time at USFSP, Conover was a professor at the University of North Texas, where she received several teaching awards and was the founding holder of the Paden Neeley Professorship for Excellence in Teaching and the director of Executive Programs. She also served as a visiting scholar for the London School of Economics and a professor-in-residence at Ernst & Young in the United Kingdom. She is a past president of Beta Alpha Psi, the international honor organization for financial information students and professionals.
She has designed and implemented study-abroad programs and mentor programs for accounting students at her previous institutions. Her research has been published in the Journal of International Accounting, Advances in Accounting and Management Accounting Quarterly, among others.
