On World Stroke Day, UAB doc urges people to learn risk factors and the 'signs and symptoms' of stroke

This effort is important because stroke is the fourth-leading cause of death in the United States, according Dr. Michael Lyerly, a stroke doctor at The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). "It is a pretty big public health concern," he said. "Every 40 seconds, someone in the U.S. has a stroke," Lyerly said.
