Students, alumni, faculty and staff from the University of Alabama at Birmingham won Gold and Silver awards at the 60th annual American Advertising Awards.
Presented by the American Advertising Federation of Birmingham, the American Advertising Awards, or ADDY Awards, are the advertising industry’s largest and most representative competition, attracting more than 40,000 entries nationally every year in local AAF Club competitions. The mission of the American Advertising Awards competition is to recognize and reward the creative spirit of excellence in the art of advertising.
College of Arts and Sciences’ Department of Art and Art History, was this year’s ADDY art director. She specializes in branding, web design, print and packaging.
Lisa Nguyen, a 2016 graphic design alumna from theDepartment of Art and Art History alumna Samantha Richardson won two Student Gold ADDYs in the Printed Annual Report or Brochure campaign and in the Integrated Brand Identity Campaign for “Fountain Heights.” Richardson is a designer/animator for Cayenne Creative. Richardson was also named Best of Show in the Student category for her Fountain Heights Project.
Department of Art and Art History student Irasema Quezada Hammock won a Student Gold ADDY in the Elements of Advertising: Art Direction category for her Adelita Café logo.
Department of Art and Art History student Tyra Robinson won a Student Gold ADDY in the Logo Design category for Turtle Pop. Robinson also won a Student Silver in the Illustration — Single category for “Evolution of African-American Hair.”
Jacob Richardson also won a Student Silver ADDY in the Music and Sound Design category for his Jacob Richardson Showreel, for which he was the composer, editor, animator and videographer.
Department of Art and Art History Professor of Graphic Design Erin Wright, MFA, won a Gold ADDY in the Public Service Out-of-Home category for “Resistir Venezuela,” for Posters for Democracy in Venezuela. Wright also won a Silver ADDY in the same category for “No More War!” for 20 x 20 Posters for Peace.
UAB University Relations won a Silver Addy in the Animation, Special Effects and Motion Graphics category for the “Innovate Birmingham” video. The team includes Shibli Rahman, motion designer; Anna Franks, creative director; Jay Wilkins, graphic designer; Jacob Richardson, multimedia designer; and student media fellows Courtney Lassiter, Bailey Barrow, Rachel Ozley and Mikala Buwalda.
