The 4th Annual Community Engagement Institute will be held Oct. 6.The Center for Clinical and Translational Science at the University of Alabama at Birmingham is encouraging UAB students, faculty, community members, researchers and public health advocates to attend the 2017 Community Engagement Institute. The event will focus primarily on how community engagement and research collaboration play critical roles in improving public health and building better communities.
The Community Engagement Institute will bring together academic and community leaders to explore concepts related to health equity and social justice. Diane McKoy, president and CEO of Associated Black Charities, will be a keynote speaker, along with Errol Crook, M.D., chair and professor of the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of South Alabama. Following the keynote, breakout and networking sessions will help foster discussions on critical public health issues.
The institute will be held Oct. 6 in the East Meeting Hall of the Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex from 7:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Attendees must pre-register and will not be able to register on-site. Tickets are $25 each, and registration ends Oct. 5. Registration to sponsor a student at a reduced ticket price ends Oct. 1.
The event is sponsored by CCTS’ community engagement component, One Great Community, and the UAB School of Public Health’s Center for the Study of Community Health.
