UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center are sponsoring an inaugural symposium on living with cancer Thursday, Nov. 19, from 1-4 p.m. at the UAB Alumni House, 1301 10th Avenue South in Birmingham.
The Robert E. Reed GI Oncology Research Foundation and theGuest speakers will address the roles of nutrition, exercise and spirituality on a cancer survivors’ quality of life.
Speakers include:
Catherine Alfano, Ph.D. – vice president of survivorship, American Cancer Society, “Cancer Survivorship: A little less conversation, a little more action please”
Cheryl L. Holt, Ph.D. – associate professor, Department of Behavioral and Community Health, co-director of the Center for Health Behavior Research, University of Maryland School of Public Health, “Spirituality, Religiosity and Cancer Coping Among African-Americans”
Wendy Demark-Wahnefried, Ph.D. – professor and Webb Endowed Chair of UAB Department of Nutrition Sciences, UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center, “Eating To Prevent and Fight Cancer.”
Laura Q. Rogers, M.D., MPH – professor, UAB Department of Nutrition Sciences, “Physical Activity After a Cancer Diagnosis”
