The University of Alabama at Birmingham will host the 39th Annual Meeting of the American Society of Preventive Oncology from March 14-17. ASPO is a multidisciplinary society that, through a variety of professional education activities, is committed primarily to serving as an advocate for cancer-prevention and -control research.
Wendy Demark-Wahnefried, Ph.D., R.D., professor in the UAB Department of Nutrition Sciences and the associate director for the prevention and control program at the UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center, is the ASPO president. Demark-Wahnefried will kick off the conference with the President’s Address at 4 p.m. Sunday, March 15, in the Margaret Cameron Spain Auditorium.
The program includes three symposiums that highlight key topics in cancer prevention and control, including the microbiome, lung-cancer screening and improving outcomes. There will be four paper sessions highlighting top-ranked submitted abstracts. The main poster session with about 100 posters and an awards ceremony will be held in the first- and second-floor lobby of the Wallace Tumor Institute also on Sunday. There also will be several career-development workshops for investigators and professionals involved in cancer prevention and control.
UAB faculty and staff are welcome to register for the entire conference at the ASPO member rate, or there is a special one-day registration available for $100. Registration information and a detailed meeting agenda can be found at www.aspo.org/annual-meeting.
