To address myriad factors companies face in the battle against cyberattacks, the University of Alabama at Birmingham’s College of Arts and Sciences Center for Information Assurance and Joint Forensics Research (CIA|JFR) will be a partner in the upcoming Connected World Conference on Feb. 23-24, presented by Connected World magazine.
The conference will convene industry, government and academic leaders to explore the ways our connected society impacts cybersecurity and identify solutions and strategies for protecting connected assets.
The event is open to the public. UAB faculty will enjoy reduced conference registration fees, and UAB students can attend for only $25.
“Cyberattacks and -breaches are a constant threat to the security of an organization, the government and individuals. And now, these threats are pivoting from data theft to the even more damaging destruction of infrastructure,” said Peggy Smedley, editorial director of Connected World magazine. “Can we anticipate what is to come? What is the best strategy to put forth? Which steps do we take to implement protection? These are the questions being asked and to be answered.”
“One of the challenges that must be addressed is developing a competent cybersecurity workforce,” said John Sloan, Ph.D., director of the UAB CIA|JFR. “Business, industry, government and academe must partner to ensure that students have the best possible training. For that to happen, resources — scholarships, cooperative programs and internships — must be allocated by all of the stakeholders. The Connected World Conference is an exciting opportunity to bring these key stakeholders together in Birmingham, whose technology sector is growing by leaps and bounds.”
