Melanie Mae Roberts of Mount Olive was named Miss UAB 2015 at theThe Miss UAB Scholarship Pageant is an official preliminary to the Miss Alabama and Miss America pageants. The pageant was held in UAB’s Alys Stephens Performing Arts Center.
Roberts is a junior majoring in psychology and sociology. She was awarded a $2,000 scholarship. Roberts also was named the winner of the lifestyle/fitness award, which carried an additional award of $100.
The first alternate was second-year medical student Breann Tisano of Brentwood, Tennessee, who was awarded $750. The second alternate was marketing junior Mattie Boyd of Homewood, who was awarded $650. The third alternate was liberal arts freshman Harley Chapin of Columbiana, who was awarded $550. The fourth alternate was early childhood education freshman Sarah Robertson of Springville, who was awarded $350.
Chapin also won the talent portion of the competition, with a clogging routine set to “Colors” by April Smith and the Great Picture Show. She was awarded an additional $200 scholarship.
Miss UAB and the talent and lifestyle/fitness winners received award plaques. Miss UAB and all alternates received flowers from LaCole Florist, all provided by the Student Activities Council.
