Graduating UAB students: Share your video messages for virtual commencement

UAB is asking students to upload a video of themselves in cap and gown or UAB gear, telling viewers who they are, what their major is and sharing something special about their time at UAB.

VC4Graduating students are being asked to send in cap-and-gown videos of themselves for the University of Alabama at Birmingham’s virtual summer commencement.

UAB’s virtual graduate ceremonies will air on Facebook and Instagram live and on YouTube at www.youtube.com/user/uabnews. The ceremony for master’s and doctoral students will air at 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 14, and the undergraduate ceremony will air at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 15.

For the virtual ceremonies, the focus will be on students. UAB is asking students to upload a 15-second video of themselves in cap and gown or UAB gear, telling viewers who they are, what their major is and sharing something special about their time at UAB. Students can also wish their fellow graduates “congratulations” and express gratitude to all of those who helped them along the way. UAB asks that graduates do this from the comfort and safety of their homes.

Send entries via direct message to @exploreuab on Instagram or email social@uab.edu by July 15. For video guidelines, please go to www.uab.edu/commencement.

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, commencement ceremonies are being held virtually. This is a necessary precaution advised by the CDC to keep students, their families and friends safe. Graduates will be offered the opportunity to walk in future ceremonies.
