The University of Alabama at Birmingham Police will collect school supplies, non-perishable food items and toiletries for students during the annual Pack the Cruiser drive Wednesday, Sept. 25. The items will be donated to Blazer Kitchen, which provides food and resources to UAB students, employees and their families.
School supplies are some of the most needed items for students. Police will be collecting paper, notebooks, pens, pencils, backpacks and other school-related items. They will also be collecting toiletries, such as women’s feminine hygiene products, toothbrushes, toothpaste, shampoo and soap.
“We want to help students who may not be able to afford the items they need to succeed in school,” said Tonya Webb, the UAB Police crime prevention specialist. “We want our students to be able to focus on their academics and not worry about whether or not they can afford pens, paper, food or toiletries.”
A UAB Police cruiser will be parked on the Campus Green, on University Boulevard between 16th and 14th streets south, from 11 a.m.-2 p.m., which is where volunteers will be accepting the donations.
