The University of Alabama at Birmingham is celebrating 50 years of dreams and discoveries. Anyone who is part of the UAB family — students, alumni, employees, patients and community members — has the opportunity to share their stories and memories as part of an oral history project. UAB is looking for stories celebrating education, patient care and community impact.
“These memories are part of UAB’s history,” said UAB President Ray L. Watts. “We want to hear the memories that make you proud to be a Blazer. Discoveries, learning, inventing and excelling in all aspects of life are part of both your and UAB’s stories. We even want to hear your stories of friendship, love, laughter and tears. Our stories show how we have positively touched hearts and changed the world.”

Memories can be shared via the recording booth or uploaded to the UAB 50th anniversary website. Appointments can be scheduled on the website. The audio booth is located at Mervyn H. Sterne Library through August. The booth will move to the Alumni House on Sept. 3, then to Lister Hill Library for the months of November and December.
Stories shared as part of the project will be stored, published and promoted as part of UAB’s 50th anniversary. UAB Archives will store the memories so future Blazers can hear the impact UAB has had on individuals and communities.
A podcast will launch in the fall with individual and compiled stories from the entire UAB community. It will be available on iTunes and Spotify.
