The University of Alabama at Birmingham chapter of the Public Relations Council of Alabama/Public Relations Student Society of America won the Bettie W. Hudgens Chapter of the Year award at the Public Relations Council of Alabama annual conference.
“This group of students is exceptionally strong and talented,” said Jacquelyn Shaia, J.D., Ph.D., assistant professor in UAB’s College of Arts and Sciences’ Department of Communciation Studies and director of the UAB Public Relations program. “They have worked unbelievably hard, and it shows in the recognition by this nationally recognized group of public relations practitioners. The individual awards are significant achievements and highly regarded in this field. Chapter of the Year is a tremendous honor, and we are thrilled to receive this award.”
In addition, students received eight Medallion Awards — the highest award given by the Public Relations Council of Alabama — along with16 Awards of Excellence and 13 Awards of Merit.
“Our chapter is committed to fostering the success of our members, and the annual PRCA awards presentation is a culmination of our students’ dedication,” said Hannah Bae, 2018-19 UAB PRCA/PRSSA president. “Winning the student Chapter of the Year award is a wonderful way to end a fulfilling year, and we are proud to be a part of the chapter’s legacy of excellence.”
UAB PRCA/PRSSA is a student-led organization that offers extracurricular education and professional development to public relations students. Its student public relations firm, Creative Relations, provides public relations services to nonprofit organizations in the Birmingham area.
This year marks the 34th time the UAB chapter has been awarded the Chapter of the Year honor in the past 36 years.
