The University of Alabama at Birmingham’s Psychology Advanced Interdisciplinary Nociception (PAIN) Collective will be hosting a spring PAINTalk lecture with pain researcher Jeffrey Mogil, Ph.D., on Wednesday, April 17.

The free, open-to-the-public event will take place at the Abroms-Engel Institute for the Visual Arts. Doors open at 5 p.m., and hors d’oeuvres will be served. The lecture begins at 5:30 p.m.

Mogil is a world-renowned advocate for translational and well-balanced science and an expert in pain science. He will present a lecture titled “Pain in Mice and Man: Ironic Adventures in Translation,” which dives into research indicating that men and women tolerate and remember pain differently.

The event is part of an ongoing series of public lectures presented by the PAIN Collective. PAINTalks focus on the latest and trending research, as well as treatment options for the relief and management of chronic pain.

A mingle with Mogil will take place immediately following the lecture at 6:30 p.m.

Mogil is professor of pain studies and the Canada Research Chair in the Genetics of Pain at McGill University. He is also the founder and director of the North American Pain School and director of the Alan Edwards Centre for Research on Pain. He is a prolific speaker, having given lectures on topics including the genetics of pain, sex differences in mechanisms of pain, and pain testing in rodents. He has written more than 270 peer-reviewed articles. Mogil is also the most recent awardee of the Elizabeth Narcessian Award for Outstanding Educational Achievements in the Field of Pain.
