Work created by University of Alabama at Birmingham students, staff and faculty won top awards at the 61st annual American Advertising Awards.
Presented by the American Advertising Federation of Birmingham, the ADDY Awards are the advertising industry’s largest and most representative competition, attracting more than 40,000 entries nationally every year in local AAF Club competitions. The mission of the American Advertising Awards competition is to recognize and reward the creative spirit of excellence in the art of advertising.
Office of University Relations won a Gold ADDY for its Student Recruitment Sock Box Direct Mail campaign and a Silver ADDY for the Student Recruitment Viewbook/Brochure campaign.
UAB’sLewis Communications won a Silver ADDY for its “UAB: Powered by Will” television spot. Burton Advertising won numerous awards for UAB Athletics marketing.
Erin Wright, MFA, professor of graphic design in the College of Arts and Sciences’ Department of Art and Art History, was awarded a Silver ADDY in the Out-of-Home category.
Nine students led by Associate Professor of graphic design Doug Barrett, MFA, won student design awards, including:
- Tyra Robinson, class of 2018: Student Best of Show, Gold ADDYs in Sales and Marketing category and in the Elements of Advertising category.
- Nicholas Howard, class of 2019: Gold ADDY in the Out-of-Home category.
- Alicia Le, class of 2020, and Kaitlyn Tarver and Giani Martin, class of 2019: group project Gold ADDY in the Cross-Platform category.
- Jessica Ray, class of 2019: Silver ADDY in the Out-of-Home category.
- Joe Cook III, class of 2020: Silver ADDY in the Out-of-Home category.
- Kristen Miller and Chris Ballenger, class of 2018: Silver ADDY in the Cross-Platform category.
- Caroline Whitaker, class of 2020: Silver ADDY in the Elements of Advertising category.
- Mikee McGee, class of 2020: Silver ADDY in the Elements of Advertising category.
- Rachel Hendrix, class of 2018: Silver ADDY in the Elements of Advertising category.
