University of Alabama at Birmingham Passport Services has been recognized by the United States government for its innovative approach in providing access to the public for obtaining or renewing passports.
While serving the greater Birmingham community, the office also aids families in obtaining passports for children, including toddlers and infants. To spark interest for travel and make the appointment exciting, they provide resources for children including maps, foreign language children’s books and other materials.
Partnerships around campus help accommodate those with special needs, people of various nationalities, religious backgrounds and cultures. The passport agent, Courtney Jeffries, has a Bachelor’s degree in International Relations and a Master’s degree in Education with a focus on teaching English to speakers of other languages. His knowledge assists the processing of applicants from different countries and those who speak limited or no English.
The National Awards Program for Passport Acceptance Facilities and Acceptance Agents is set to recognize facilities and agents who have gone above and beyond in offering superior customer service or implementing innovation that streamline processes and enhance the customer experience. UAB is one of nine who will be honored in Washington, D.C. on February 22.
UAB Passport Services is open to public and located in the UBOB Building at 1201 University Blvd, Birmingham, AL 35294. Applicants must have an appointment, which can be made at www.educationabroad.uab.edu or by emailing passports@uab.edu.
