Renowned guitarist, vocalist and songwriter Jonny Lang will perform new music live Saturday, June 10, presented by the University of Alabama at Birmingham’s Alys Stephens Performing Arts Center.
An American blues, gospel and rock musician, the Grammy Award-winning Lang has released seven albums. A farm boy from Fargo, North Dakota, Lang got his start more than 16 years ago in the clubs of Minneapolis and found incredible success with his major-label debut album, “Lie to Me.” His path afforded him the opportunity to interact with some of the most respected legends in music. On the way up, he shared the stage with The Rolling Stones, B.B. King, Aerosmith, Sting and Buddy Guy, to name a few.
The show is set for 8 p.m. in the center’s Jemison Concert Hall, 1200 10th Ave. South. Tickets are $54, $63 and $72. Call 205-975-2787 or visit www.AlysStephens.org. JPats, the center’s Junior Patrons group, receive $10 off per ticket and a meet-and-greet opportunity.

Lang has just released his first album of new music in seven years, “Fight for My Soul,” on the Concord Record label. It defies categorization by a single genre, according to his artist’s bio. The textured arrangements, broad worldview, vocal melodies and expressive guitar playing define the album. It is exactly the realized vision that Lang aimed to achieve over the long period he has been working.
“Much of what I’ve experienced through music and life in general is in these songs,” Lang said in his statement. “I really like reaching out and connecting with people. For me, this is what it’s all about. It keeps it fresh with different experiences every day.”
