University of Alabama at Birmingham will perform a fall choral collage Friday, Oct. 21, at Southside Baptist Church.
More than 80 student singers from theThe UAB Concert Choir, Opera and Chamber Singers, from the College of Arts and Sciences’ Department of Music, will perform at 7 p.m. at the church, which is located near the campus, at 1016 19th St. South. The program will include a variety of choral repertoire, focusing largely on the music of English and American composers, says conductor Brian Kittredge, DMA, assistant professor of music and director of choral activities. Kristine Hurst-Wajszczuk, DMA, directs UAB Opera.
Featured on the program will be works by Britten, Bennett, Persichetti, Shaw/Parker, Burchard, Childs, Gibbs and more. Also on the program will be a sneak preview of UAB Opera’s upcoming fully staged production of Gian Carlo Menotti’s “Amahl and the Night Visitors.” The opera is set for 7:30 p.m. each night Nov. 17-18 in UAB’s Alys Stephens Performing Arts Center.
